News Report
on National Prayer Rallies
September 7,
2003 was truly a significant day in this nation. CTV News Anchor
Sandy Renaldo aptly stated in her introduction to her news segment
on the prayer rallies Sunday night, The sleeping giant is
awake.
According to
reports received so far, we estimate:
-
Between 80,000 and 100,000 Canadians joined in prayer for our
political leaders, and for the sanctity of marriage.
-
Approximately
1000 Canadian clergy, representing many different denominations,
provided spiritual and prayer leadership.
-
220 ridings
had officially organized prayer rallies. Some ridings with no
official organization still had people showing up to pray.
Also, churches
in many towns across Canada where the MP constituency office was
located too far to travel, held their own local prayer services.
This is exciting,
significant and powerful. The Bible promises, If My people
who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek
My face
then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their
sin and heal their land. Jesus also promised, For where two
or three are gathered in My name, I am there in the midst of them.
Never before
has an event such as this taken place in Canadas history.
Never before have such a large gathering of Gods people from
coast to coast united together to pray. I truly believe that this
national wave of prayer has forever altered the course of this nation
for good.
We realized
that due to the huge influx of e-mails we are receiving and limited
resources, it will not be possible to upload daily reports of a
riding-by-riding tally of the numbers that gathered to pray. However,
our organizer is keeping a tally, and based on reports received
so far, we estimate that between 80,000 and 100,000 gathered to
pray.
Some ridings
drew as many as 5000 participants. Even the small town of Medicine
Hat, Alberta, reported 1000 people joining together to pray.
Please see the
Photo Gallery on this website for pix of some of the prayer rallies.
If you have one or two good quality digital pictures from your prayer
rally, please email to info@familyaction.org. (please do not send
more than 2 pictures).
CFAC will be
producing a collage of photos in our next newsletter, including
some of the awesome reports from across the nation.
Here are more
good news reports:
-
On Saturday,
September 6, the National Post published a full-page (page A5)
announcement of the rallies, including a declaration of marriage
for all to see.
-
Torontos
largest radio news station made announcements in their news
segment about the prayer rallies every hour throughout the day
on Saturday.
-
Many other
news agencies announced the rallies.
-
The Sanctity
of Marriage website (www.sanctityofmarriage.ca) had as many
as 10,000 visits in one day. As of September 9, there were 77,500
visits.
-
Approximately
220 of the 301 ridings had people like you volunteering to lead
and organize.
And all this
was orchestrated in just 4 weeks, when many people were away on
holidays.
Does anyone
not think that God orchestrated all of this?
On behalf of
the organizers in our Toronto and Calgary offices, we want to firstly,
give thanks and praise to God. Secondly, we want to thank all of
you for your hard work and dedication in organizing and leading
the prayer rallies in your riding.
Also, a special
thanks to the Canadian clergy who led the rallies. We were especially
excited to hear about clergy from different denominations joining
together to lead their local prayer rallies. It is exciting to see
Gods people uniting on this issue.
Please continue
to pray for the following:
| a)
|
The
Official Opposition Party will introduce a motion on marriage
(likely during the first week of Parliaments fall session),
commencing September 15. Please pray that MPs of all parties
will vote to use all necessary measures to protect marriage.
|
| b)
|
Bill
C-250 (a bill which would seriously erode freedom of speech
and freedom of religion) will also likely be voted on during
the first week or two of the fall session. If you have not done
so already, please call your MP and ask them to vote against
Bill C-250 (it is especially crucial that Ontarians call their
Liberal MPs.) For more information on Bill C-250, see www.familyaction.org |
Again, our heartfelt
thanks for all your dedication. Watch www.sanctityofmarriage.ca
for further updates on marriage.
