VLT Vote

New Brunswicker's had an opportunity to vote in a "one-time referendum on the future of video lottery terminals (VLTs)" on May 14, 2001.

The question was as follows (information from NB Legislature April 3, 2001 by Justice Minister Brad Green):

Should the Province of New Brunswick continue to permit the legal and regulated operation of video gaming devices (commonly known as video lottery terminals or VLTs)?
Yes _____ No ______

A "YES" vote meant that the government's policy regarding video lottery terminals would not change. . . A "NO" vote meant that operating VLTs in New Brunswick will be illegal after March 31, 2002, when the province's current contract with the New Brunswick Coin Owners Association expires.
