A citizen who used to live under communism is concerned about freedom of speech and religion in Canada.

Dear Editor,

I am a one of many landed immigrant who come into this land 14 years ago. I come from Vietnam where life is hard and there is no freedom in what we all understand . Vietnam is a communist country where there is no freedom of speech and no freedom of religion either. So, coming to Canada I love this nation not just because of life itself we have but the freedom we live, we are living not under any dictated authority, not under any pressure. I am thankful for what we have in this very land the land of Canada.

Lately, I read and hear from the news many new bills have been passed from our Parliament, which are quite special the way they are set that bring me to the concern of writing you this letter. I wish that you could spend some of your time to read this, hopefully, you would pay attention to my lowly voice in this large community.

The bill C250 sounds quite strange the way it is revealed to me that somewhat when someone can not say what they believe and he or she would be charged for what they believe, they can be fine or even jail.( this brings me back to my memory when I had been living in Vietnam, where the communist will persecute people even the music they are listening. ) This is to hard as hard as metal, I could not believe in my eye that in Canada that kind of law could have been made!!!? Will you agree with me that you can not control someone mind, this is something beyond reality. So, Talking about homosexual is not right in the Church can not say as a hatred mind toward people. We are taught by God to love not to hate I agreed that if I hate homosexual people then I should be charged or persecuted.

In this case, commanding people not to do does not say of any hatred, I think someone who are involved with homosexual would be to sensitive to against the Church. For example, telling our children not to steal, not to kill, not to swear, not to smoke, not to drink then that does not mean I hate people who steal, kill, swear, smoke, and drink... Just the actions it is does not mean hatred like someone defined in the thought toward the Church. I believe in loving someone and command the people not to what she or he does is totally different action. I think I can not read people mind but thinking that the church against people... I considering this is a wrong thought.

In conclusion, I will send this letter to Sarnia Observer paper the local paper too; Hopefully, there are in our community people will agreed with me that Canada still the freedom country. Will you let me believe that Canada is still a freedom country? Will you let me believe that Canada still a country where you can express yourself in what you believe? Will you let me that Canada still a country where voice has been heard, where you can have a freedom to express what you believe, will you?!! Will you? I am thanking you for your time as you spend to read this letter and I even am so glad if this letter would be revealed to your web site.

Respectfully yours

Toan
