Svend
Robinson has arranged to switch his Private Member's bill
with ND MP Wendy Lill, which means his bill will now be
up for its final hour of debate this Wednesday, June 11th
at 5:30 pm. The vote on Bill C250 will be NO EARLIER than
Wednesday June 18, 2003. This is clearly laid out in the
Standing Orders under SO 93.(1). If the house is not sitting
on June 18, the vote will be delayed until the fall session.
Therefore
we still have time. Continue to pressure your Member of
Parliament and call the Prime Minister's office also.
We should accept nothing less than a defeat of this dangerous
amendment. If C250 should be passed in any form, then
we should question whether the law is constitutional.
Oppression of freedom of thought, belief, expression and
opinion IS unconstitutional.
Several
amendments have been introduced and more will likely be
introduced and debated. Will these amendments protect
citizens? Any restrictions to our freedoms are unacceptable
in a civilized democratic society.
Oppressing
freedom of conscience, belief, thought, or opinion is
not required for the protection of homosexuals from violence.
Actions that directly incite violence are already illegal.
Robinson's amendment is not intended to prevent violence.
It is intended to silence all opposing views and opinions
to the homosexual agenda or homosexual behaviour. If acts
of violence were really what Bill C250 was about, we would
refer to the already existing laws dealing with that.
CFAC
has concern that even with amendments there will be no
protection for "religious" views, beliefs or
even text. Precedence has already been established by
human right's tribunals and even courts that the rights
attributed to sexual orientation take precedence over
Charter rights to freedom of belief, opinion, religion
and even thought.
The government of Canada must be held to account and understand
that the clause in our Charter guaranteeing democratic
freedoms is greatly valued by Canadians.
Following
is a Part 1, Clause 2 of OUR Charter:
|
2.
|
Everyone
has the following fundamental freedoms: |
|
a)
|
freedom
of conscience and religion;
|
|
b) |
freedom
of thought, belief, opinion and expression, including
freedom of the press and other media of communication;
|
|
c)
|
freedom
of peaceful assembly; and |
|
d) |
freedom of association. |
WHAT
YOU CAN DO:
Continue phoning and e-mailing the YOUR MP ( for your
MP info see "Find
Your MP").
And call the Prime Minister's office also. Phone: 613-992-4211.
As Canadians we are not prepared to accept infringements
on OUR Charter rights.
We have until at least June 18 to let them hear us.
We have until June 18 for praying people to do that.
We have until June 18 to do all we can to defend the
freedoms that set Canada apart from most nations.
Let us defend those freedoms that many of our fathers
and grandfathers died defending in two world wars.
