Conference Targets Net Crimes Against
Kids
Eighteen
police agencies, 200 law enforcement representatives
from across Ontario are meeting for four days, in Niagara
Falls, discussing strategy to protect children from
Internet crime.
Inspector
Andy Stewart's comment in regards to societies responsibility
is very striking! " The most fundamental responsibility
of any society is to protect its children ". With
the increase of Internet activity, our children have
become the target of sexual predators. This must be
curtailed! The on line predators have had a free ride
in cyber space with most, if not all, Internet Service
Providers (ISPs). ISPs have done virtually nothing to
prohibit illegal sites. They should be cooperating with
police forces to apprehend the child molesters! ISPs
must, as good corporate citizens, step up to the plate
and fulfill their societal duty.
Recently
I had the opportunity to discuss this atrocity with
RCMP officials. One officer made a very striking comment.
He said " don't call this child pornography but
call it what it is, child abuse and child rape".
He is correct in his observation, but it is also a sad
reality that even child pornography has become acceptable
in our society!
We
need federal laws that would force ISPs to curtail these
sites and cooperate with our law enforcement officials.
This is not censorship or invasion of anyone's privacy
but pure COMMON SENSE! IP numbers should be used to
trace illegal use of sites, just as our license plates
numbers on our cars can be used if our vehicles are
used in a crime. Thanks to our police forces for learning
new ways to better protect our vulnerable children.
Lets make our nations a CHILD SAFE CANADA !
