Letter To:
The
President of the United States, The United States Senate,
The American and international media and The parents and
voters of America
Mr. A. Paul Cellucci, governor of the Commonwealth of
Massachusetts, has been nominated to become the United
States' ambassador to Canada. As Canadians we respect
the United States' prerogative to choose its ambassador
to Canada. It is only with great consideration that this
letter of concern and objection is written.
On
issues affecting families and children, Mr. Cellucci's
administration has repeatedly sided with radical groups
who seek to overturn traditional morality and undermine
the family unit as the vast majority people understand
and revere it. To a frightening degree he has aided such
groups in using public schools as a means of bypassing
parents and subjecting children to ideological and sexual
propaganda.
His
legacy includes substantial and repeated intrusion on
parental rights, radical activist nominations to the State
Supreme Judicial Court, and continued funding of a so-called
'homosexual tolerance' program that has gone so far as
to instruct children in detail on how to engage in grossly
immoral and potentially lethal sexual acts. Most parents
would be horrified.
Given
the broad, unrelenting moral assault on children and families
within both our nations, the President's nomination of
Mr. Cellucci is both a disappointment and a mystery to
many Canadians. Many of us are asking why the President
would choose a person who is likely to undermine the efforts
of the President himself on important social policy issues?
It may not have occurred to the President that in appointing
Mr. Cellucci, he is 'aiding' and 'abetting' an increasingly
authoritarian government in Canada that is adamantly opposed
to the most fundamental goals of his own administration.
Undoubtedly,
Mr. Cellucci will be at home in Ottawa, but that is the
problem. His presence would serve to alienate many Canadians
who believe that our current government in Canada very
much needs some sensible pressure applied to moderate
its radical anti-family, and pro-UN/internationalist policies.
Canada's policies on these issues are already amongst
the most radically leftist in the world.
Consider
the context into which you would send Mr. Cellucci and
how his arrival in Ottawa would sadden millions of Canadians
who are profoundly troubled about the erosion of religious
freedom and the natural rights of parents:
-
Startling examples of anti-religious bigotry increasingly
come from Canada's ruling socialist political elite,
including profoundly anti-Christian statements made
recently by senior cabinet members of the current Ottawa
government.
- Intolerance
of traditional faith is deeply entrenched in the Canadian
judiciary and bureaucracy. Religious broadcasters are
subjected to censorship and restrictions on ownership
that violate the spirit and the letter of the United
States Constitution.
- Judges
are appointed at the sole discretion of the Prime Minister's
inner circle -- like cabinet, ambassadorial, senior
military and police, bureaucratic and human rights tribunal
appointments etc. Thus, the courts in Canada are even
more aggressive in pursuing social revolution than their
counterparts in the USA.
- The
Canadian Federal government recently extended benefits
historically afforded to married couples to same sex
partners -- without consultation of the Canadian public
and against the objections of millions of Canadians.
- Graduates
of a major university are denied certification as teachers
simply because the Judeo-Christian beliefs of that institution
are considered "homophobic."
- There
are no laws whatsoever, to protect the unborn at any
stage. Abortions are fully paid for by taxpayers, as
are sex change operations and other questionable procedures
that cater to the Leftist agenda of the cultural elite.
- At
every opportunity radical UN policies on social and
moral issues are initiated and supported by our own
Canadian government. Canadians finds themselves 'signed
onto' extremist agendas that undermine not only national
sovereignty, but also the family unit and parental rights
-- without so much as a parliamentary debate, never
mind a vote.
President
Bush and the US Senate should be asking themselves if
it is prudent to reinforce the anti-democratic and anti-family
agenda of the current Canadian government by sending an
ambassador whose entire track record is one of pushing
that very agenda? Even if you don't care about the plight
of Canadian parents and families, does the appointment
of such a person serve the American interest?
After
enduring two successive US administrations during which
our radical neo-socialist government marched arm in arm
with Bill Clinton on an anti-family, and pro-UN control
agenda, we were hoping for a change. Canadians desperately
need 'a break' from this relentless march to the left.
Appointing Cellucci would be exactly the wrong signal
at the wrong time, by an administration from which we
had every reason to expect better.
For
these and other reasons, we respectfully urge the President
to reconsider, and every member of the United States Senate
to reject the nomination of Paul Cellucci as the United
States' ambassador to Canada.
