Have you ever wondered about
the early Christian influence in Canada? The discoverer
of Canada, John Cabot, planted a cross on the shores of
Newfoundland, as did Cartier. Numerous early explorers
and settlers to the land that would later become Canada
expressed their deepest appreciation for a land of liberties
and freedom of religious expression and a society of justice.
Then of course there were the founding Fathers absolute
commitments to have a Constitution that protected truth,
liberty and righteousness . Tupper, Tilley and Mowat -
a few leaders who we really do not know or respect today,
did all they could to ensure a nation worth inheriting
by future generations. Listen to the words from our old
Canadian Bill of Rights, " I am a Canadian, free
to speak without fear, free to worship God in my own way,
free to stand for what I think right, free to oppose what
I believe wrong, free to choose those who shall govern
my country." Oh Canada -- how we have abandoned those
essential principles.
We should proudly sing
our national anthem Oh Canada: "God keep our land
glorious and free." But we have governments, courts
and even tribunals suppressing both the glory and freedom.
Oh Canadians, that we may defend the founding principles
of truth, liberty and righteousness - your land, my
land, our inheritance. Listen to verse four of our anthem,
"Ruler Supreme, who hearest humble prayer, Hold
our dominion in thy loving care."
Democracy, what an awesome
opportunity for self- government. No dictatorship, no
authoritarian regime, no fascist state, but government
for the people, by the people. Billy Graham once said
that "no government is better than the people involved
in it. " Oh how true. Fellow Canadians, are you
part of the government? The BNA Constitution was for
the people's power - the Charter of Rights is for state
control. What a pity.
The Dominion of Canada,
so named Sept 1, 1864, was inspired by Psalm 72. It
was accepted by all the founding Fathers and is a root
of Canada: "He shall have dominion from sea to
sea" is chiseled into the south arch stone of the
Peace Tower. This is just another powerful reminder
to us that this nation was founded by men who sought
for truth, wisdom and justice. It is now your responsibility,
as well as the responsibility of your family, friends
and neighbors to uphold and even restore the principles
of our founding. A founding based on virtue, trust,
goodness, hard work and biblical morality.
A vision for a great nation
can still be found in our history -from remnants of
our Constitution, a few history books and some of our
elders. On the archstone to the House of Commons is
one of the most magnificent and significant verses for
a people: " Where there is no vision, the people
perish."
Do you have a vision for
Canada etched in your mind and heart? Join thousands
of other Canadians upholding a noble and Godly vision
for our great nation, a people proud of our heritage,
compassionate about an identity that is Canadian and
committed to see our founding principles restored and
defended.
